German for cognate a whore, a slut. One can see the root of the word "whore" through the German cognate; Old English "hora" evolved into what we now use.
"Hure" is actually used deliberately in Germany in sexual service organizations, used much more often than "prostitute", since the Germans feel that "prostitute" is an unnecessary euphamism for something that doesn't need euphamisms.
