A mäerf is hypothesized to be the most common noise a tamed umbreon would make while near humans as a way of communication. It can be heard from a tamed umbreon in different tones to depict different meanings such as needing pats or food.

Umbreon: Mäerf
Bystander 1: Yo, Did that umbreon just say something?
Bystander 2: I think it did, sounded like a mäerf.
