A title or name given to white men or, in some cases, women in the Indian state of Kerala.
Traditionally deriving from Sahib, which was an Arabic title meaning "Companion", it has now evolved into a name used by the native people (Malayalis) to colloquially refer to white people.
People of more northern states use "Saab" in a similar manner to "Sahib" being used as a respectful title, however, unlike Malayalis which is not used in a respectful manner.
"അവിടെ ഒരു സായിപ്പ് നിൽക്കുന്നു"
"Avide oru sayip nilkunnu"
