A Boy Racer in the west of Ireland
In the west of Ireland the term ‘schan’ can be used to describe certain types of boy racers. The ‘sh’ is indicative of the west of Ireland. The term Schan is mainly used in Counties Mayo, Sligo and Galway.
Schans can be identified by their gelled down fringe, padded vest jackets, boot cut jeans and brown boots. They often drive around town in modified cars, annoying locals with their horrible music blurring out the windows and their load exhausts.
