In relationships she still suffered from single mother syndrome and couldn't relinquish control.

When a single mother begins to dwell on being alone for the rest of their life and starts paying more attention to men than their children.

Child: Ugh! Mom is so obsessed with her new boyfriend it's like I don't even exist anymore, and when I do, everything is still about him! It's driving me crazy!

Single Syndrome

An unreasonable philosophy usually developed through puberty in adolescent males, that one may never be truly happy with their lives without a significant other.

This tends to manifest faster and more severely in those who have been rejected by a romantic interest a significant amount of times, and those who find themselves isolated in an environment where “everyone else” seems to have a partner.

This syndrome hammers in the absolute “need” for an s/o, so much that the subject finds it even more difficult to, ahem, *obtain* one, due to its side effects of obsessive behavioral patterns.

Usually the subject may grow out of this philosophy and focus on bettering themselves rather than just getting a date with someone. But if it doesn’t, usually because of the neglect of a friend or family member to address it, this syndrome germinates into a sense of entitlement to an s/o, morphing the subject into a Nice Guy.

A: Life sucks, man. If only I had a girlfriend.
B: Dude, stop acting like you need one.
A: But I do!
B: No you don’t, man. Seems like you’ve got a bad case of Single Syndrome
