wonderstanding

A combination of the words "wonder" and "understanding," where "wonder" signifies both reverence and curiosity.

1) The feeling people have after learning something amazing - describing not only a recognition of the beauty of something (such as the world), but the feeling of increased awe experienced after understanding the true complexity of it.

2) The combination of: "an artist's wonder at the virtuosity of nature with a scientist's understanding of how it comes to be." - author Matt Ridley (describing Richard Dawkins's "The Greatest Show on Earth").

Similar to "nerdvana."

Amanda: "That Symphony of Science vid was awesome! It really conveyed a sense of wonderstanding of the way the universe works."

Stephen: "Yes, you appeared to be in a state of considerable nerdvana."

wonderstand

1. To partially understand. A partial understanding. The kind of understanding that leaves one wondering.

Greg took Ashley and Amy aside and said to them, "Now girls, Carrie is going to be your new mommy, do you understand?"

Ashley looked at Amy, then back at her father and said, "I wonderstand."

Greg made a disappointed face yet said nothing more, leaving the girls to their wonderstanding.
