Don't listen to the other definition. This is hyphenation :)
a relation a person establishes with some other person. It could be one between persons of the same sex or the opposite sex.
Marriage is a hyphenation. So is civil partnership. Even a love affair or an extramarital relation may be considered a hyphenation.

A horizontal chop motion done with one's hand or fingers at another person's throat, with just enough force to interrupt their speech, but not necessarily injure them. The result may make the recipient cough or have to swallow, but definitely halts immediate speech. Often, the word "hyphen" is said as the blow is delivered.
