Abraham Lincoln he ain't.
(About his place in presidential history:) "History. We won't know. We'll all be dead." --George W. Bush, 2003
"Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history. We of this Congress and this administration, will be remembered in spite of ourselves. No personal significance, or insignificance, can spare one or another of us. The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation." --Abraham Lincoln

Sychophantic former White House counsel, later appointed by President Bush to be Attorney General of the United States. He is notable for being perhaps the country's only AG who has so completely and consistently disregarded the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Alberto Gonzales is infamous for stonewalling Congressional oversight and investigative meetings by repeatedly dodging pointed questions by saying "that's classified." His dismissal of concerns about illegal wiretapping and illegal extraordinary rendition makes him widely regarded as the worst AG in history.
A secret 2002 Justice Department memorandum cleared by Alberto Gonzales argued that laws prohibiting torture do "not apply to the president's detention and interrogation of enemy combatants", and that the pain caused by interrogation must include "injury such as death, organ failure, or serious impairment of body functions รขยย in order to constitute torture." - Wikipedia

Swiss-based multinational oil/energy company involved in a number of scandals, including the Iraq Oil-for-Food scandal, dumping toxic waste in Cote D'Ivoire, and a toxic chemical explosion in Norway.
Unscrupulous corporate idiots wanted to save money by not having a Dutch company do it for 500,000 euros, so Trafigura hired some Ivorian front company to do it for 18,500, though they knew the whole country had no processing facility. So it got dumped in residential dumps, along roads, and made thousands sick and caused some deaths.
Mad protests result, resignations happen and several executives visiting the site get arrested, but company never admits wrongdoing. But instead of saving 481,500 euros, this socially-unconscious firm ends up paying $198 million for clean-up and $46 million for those affected. Idiots!

An organization that sought to discredit Senator John Kerry's military service in Vietnam by claiming that he committed cowardly acts and that his medals were not deserved. This group was supposedly comprised of veterans who had served in Vietnam at the same time and on the same type of missions.
Actually a front group for Republican operatives aiming to discredit their opponent, Swiftboat Veterans for Truth suddenly appeared during the presidential race. Their attacks were effective despite Kerry's record of combat service versus his opponent's stint in the National Guard away from combat. Kerry lost his election bid and the Swiftboat group disappeared immediately after George W. Bush was reelected.
The verb "to swiftboat someone" has since entered the American political lexicon as a synonym for an ad hominem attack which seeks to discredit a person, usually made by a thinly veiled front group of operatives.
Where have the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth gone? Here they were, instantly organized and running ads on TV as if they were well financed by the Republican National Committee or something, and now they have disbanded and faded into nothing more than a verb used to describe bearing false witness and attempting to discredit a political opponent.

Great Australian band that have been together since 1977 and have produced some of the best tunes of the 80s and early-90s. Around their Listen Like Thieves album, they became increasingly popular in the US and around the world. 1987's Kick album made them superstars. X sold less in 1990 but as a live band, many consider them to be one of the best ever. They did a huge show at Wembly Stadium in July 1991 in front of 72,000 which was recorded and is called Live Baby Live. It is one of the best concert DVDs in existence.
Later, the band fell out of favor with the rise of the grunge movement and changing tastes. Their 1992 album, Welcome to Wherever You Are, was brilliant and diverse, and ultimately one of their best, but sold poorly. Full Moon, Dirty Hearts in 1993 did not do well in sales or among critics. They released one more album before Michael Hutchence's death in 1997, Elegantly Wasted, which is a disappointment overall. Michael's death had a profound and lasting effect on the band.
They kept playing into the early 2000s with guest singers, and finally decided on a new singer, JD Fortune, through the show Rock Star INXS. His voice is similar in many ways to Hutchence but no one can replace Hutch's singing and songwriting talent, sexiness, or immeasurable charisma.
I'm watching Live Baby Live and singing along to one kick ass INXS song after another, just wishing I had half of Michael Hutchence's looks, charisma, and talent.

"Say NO to socialism!" (we don't want government to function for the benefit of average people, only corporations and the very rich)
"blah blah blah...Barack HUSSEIN Obama" (see? look! His middle name sounds Middle Eastern...so he's a terrorist!")
"We are a grass-roots movement" (FreedomWorks, Fox News)
