Used in place of Mr. Satan in the dragonball universe for censorship purposes. He became the world martial arts champion while the Z fighters were off doing other things. He is partially responsible for the defeat of Cell and Majin Buu, but instead of being modest he takes full credit for their defeat. He is the (overprotective) father of Videl.
Along with the Supreme Kai, Pan, Fortuneteller Baba, and Uub, Mr. Satan is one of the only characters out of the main cast who is never killed during the course of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT.
Although weak compared to the majority of the cast, Mr. Satan is a skilled martial artist, and his strength exceeds that of most humans.
Akira Toriyama revealed in the Super Exciting Guide interview that Hercule first name is Mark (ãã¼ã¯, Maaku), a rough anagram of Akuma, which means "Devil" or "Demon" in Japanese, keeping in line with his family's naming scheme.

Grandpa Gohan is Son Goku's adoptive grandfather. He is a master of material arts, and teaches Goku karate, as well as the Janken fighting pose. He is killed by Goku after transforming at the full moon, though he does not find out about this until later in the Saiyan saga.
When Goku first landed on Earth, his mission was to, in time, destroy the entire human race and sell the planet to another race. Being a Saiyan, who are known to be very aggressive and short-tempered, Goku was very violent and unnaturally strong. Eventually his attitude completely changes after surviving a near-fatal plunge down a deep ravine.
Grandpa Gohan makes his second appearance during the Fortuneteller Baba saga, as the fifth fighter. He makes his final appearance at the end of dragonball where Goku and Chi-Chi are trying to repair the magical furnace that set the Ox-King's castle ablaze.

Goku's son Gohan is named after his Grandpa Gohan only because the baby went without a name for a while, until the name "Gohan" came into conversation, and the baby laughed because he liked the name, so they Chi-Chi, Goku, and the Ox-King decided to name him that.

plot convenience is a method of story-telling that forces unlikely events to take place because the story calls for it.
In the anime dragonball, Goku as a child transforms into a great ape twice within a year, the first was when they were trapped in 3 foot "special steel" thick cube prizon with tempered glass up on top, the full moon is out, and after he transforms he has his tail cut off.
plot convenience kicks in during the final round of the world martial arts tournament, Goku's tail grows back during his fight with Monster Beast Giran, and the full moon just happens to be out during the final fight. In other words plot convenience happens when coincidences must take place in order for the plot to advance.

Not quite right, amiss can imply that something is wrong, or is not going as planned.

Master Roshi, and Master Shen's master. He saved the world from King Piccolo by using the Mafuba (Evil Containment Wave in the English dub), and dies because of it. He meets with Goku in the past as part of his training, but Goku is no match for him. This is curious seeing how Goku was able to defeat King Piccolo prior to his training, and Master Mutaito is no match for King Piccolo despite this. It may be his superior fighting technique and Goku's lack of mental discipline that make him able to beat him.
Master Mutaito's hairstyle is the same as the wig Master Roshi wore when disguised as Jackie Chun.

Son Goku is the main character in the dragonball series. He is referred to as Kakarot (or Kakarrot) by his rival, Vegeta. Son is the title inherited from his adoptive grandfather, Grandpa Gohan, or just Son Gohan. The prefix grandpa is used to avoid confusion with Goku's first son, Gohan. He is the second son of Bardock, with Raditz being the first, and Fasha is speculated to be his mother.
Goku is the only pure-blooded Saiyan to have a pure heart, due entirely to falling down a deep ravine and banging his head. Being a saiyan, he survived the fall, and his naturally violent nature disappeared, and became a good person because of his Gohan's good influence.
Goku is also the only saiyan to achieve every level of Super Saiyan. He becomes a super saiyan at the end of the Freeza saga, a full-powered super saiyan during the Cell Games Saga, and learns Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 while training on the Grand Kai's planet, in Otherworld. He learns how to become a super saiyan 4 during the baby saga (dragonball gt; and Vegeta learns towards the end of the Shadow Dragons Saga.

Goku means aware of emptiness (The 'Go' syllable means enlightenment, and the 'Ku' syllable means Sky or Emptiness). Goku's full name (Son Goku) is the Japanese name for Sun Wukong, the main protagonist in the Chinese legend Journey to the West, off of whom Goku is loosely based.

Kamehameha translated literally from phonetic Japanese to English means "Turtle Destruction Wave".
Kame (turtle) Hameha (destruction wave/blast)
This attack was created by Master Roshi during his material arts training. The Kamehameha wave sacrifices attack preparedness and speed in order to cause massive damage.
Variations:
Instant Kamehameha: Seen only once in the Cell Games Saga, while Goku is fighting Complete Cell, he is losing energy rapidly and pushes his remaining energy into one wave, at first it seems like he is going to destroy the planet and take Cell with him, however at the last minute he uses Instant Transmission (the technique of forming your physical body into mass a light and traveling to a location of somebody's Ki to teleport directly in front of cell, thus canceling out Kamehameha's low rate of speed, and the time it takes to build up the attack
Big Bang Kamehameha: Gogeta's take on the Kamehameha and the Big Bang Attack, derived from Goku and Vegeta receptively.
In the first season, after Goku gets back from his training with North Kai, he uses the 4x Kaioken technique to increase the power of his wave, at the point where Vegeta tries to destroy the planet using his Galick Gun (a technique similar too, and is presumably as powerful if not moreso than a Kamehameha, this is hinted at because it takes a long time to gather the energy to fire this attack).
The Kamehameha wave was created by Master Roshi, a material arts trainer from the fictional anime series Dragonball.
