Bachelorette Degree

Noun. Plural: Bachelorette Degrees. Recently adopted politically corrected term for an advanced degree granted by institutions of higher learning when the recipient is a female single lady Bachelorette, formerly only referred as a Bachelor's Degree, regardless of sex of the student.

Origins: Anyone receiving an advanced degree from the darkest of ages was called a Bachelor (i.e., male, single dude, living away from home and telling his folks he studies all weekend. If the Bachelor attended most classes, took every test, and paid his book store balances in full, he was awarded a Bachelor's Degree, autographed on sheep skin (in the age before desktop publishing).

As society achieved enlightenment, females single ladies, aka Bachelorettes, joined their brother students’ Bachelors’ efforts in growing numbers. Since Bachelorettes are jointly exposed to all the same teachings of thought, morality, and sublime artistry as Bachelors, it only makes politically-corrected sense to employ the term Bachelorette Degree when referring to the fairer sex student recipient of the conventional Bachelor’s Degree.

The term Bachelorette Degree was first found in social media public comment, appearing 5/14/2013, and posted by the family relation of Tabby K., of Denver, CO, in honor of Tabby K.’s upcoming graduation commencement ceremony. Word.

(1) "Hey Girl, I hear you're getting your Bachelorette Degree this weekend! Can I be you when I grow up!!"

(2) "Goodness, I sure hope I get my Bachelorette Degree before the effort kicks my butt, steals my joy, and I die trying!"

(3) "Anthropologists will someday pontificate upon the societal reasons why American language primarily evolved as masculine, to eventually achieve enlightenment by evolving to the feminine. The speed of adopting the term Bachelorette Degree is a primary example of how just how fast we can clarify the American Lexicon and thus purify our language." ~ A Loving Aunt’s Prophesy To Her Niece

Vanity Degree

A university degree chosen primarily for the satisfaction of the knowledge one attains from it, the most important aspect of which is that you enjoy what you are studying.

This short sighted life decision often gives little thought or concern to the fact that such a degree will probably not leave the graduate with employable skills or knowledge meaning they will have to work in a job they hate forever.

Common vanity degrees include politics, womens/feminism studies, sociology, history and most arts degrees.

"I AM TRYING TO SPEND MY YOUTH BEING PASSIONATE ABOUT SOMETHING AND IF I END UP A CHECK OUT CHICK IN MY FORTIES AT LEAST I WILL KNOW THAT I KNOW A LOT ABOUT THINGS THAT I LOVE AND THAT I SPENT MY DEGREE LEARNING ABOUT THINGS I WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT"

Why waste 3-4 years and tens of thousands of dallars studying for a vanity degree with no job prospects at the end? Why not plan ahead and find something that interests you AND that you can make a career out of. That way you can spend your entire working life doing something that interests you, not just your youth and education.

Degree Creep

When people need higher degrees to obtain the same job that people with lower degrees used to get. Ex. when the same job that used to require a bachelor's degree, now requires a master's degree, even though a person with a bachelor's degree could still competently do that job. This is a result of the job market being flooded with people who have higher degrees than was usual, and this new higher degree becomes the norm when hiring.

Dennis: I hate having to shell out so much money and spend so much time to go to grad school.
Omar: Why not stop with a bachelor's?
Dennis: Because of degree creep, i need a master's degree to have a good chance of getting a good job.

barista degree

Degrees in English, Philosophy, the arts and anything that ends in 'Studies' (Gender Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, etc). Pretty much guarantees you'll be making $5 coffee for someone with a STEM or business degree.

I should have listened to my counselor and majored in Civil Engineering. This barista degree in Feminist Theory is only good for a job at Starbucks...
