A growing genre of music that is commonly (and wrongly) referred to as grind or grindcore.
It features fast drumming, guitar riffs that usually don't fit or make sense, and combines elements from other genres, such as rock, freeform jazz, deathcore and sometimes country/western.
Some tech metal bands:
Test Switch Isolator
Daughters
The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravanganza
The Number 12 Looks Like You
See You Next Tuesday.

poser MTV rock. bands that copy Korn (who do it better than all of the anyways.) Linkin park, papa roach, crazy town, etc. are all these bands. usually incorporates hip-hop elements into the music. songs are power chords and have a lead singer trying to look tough by rapping and attemping to do a growl that would make true metalheads laugh.
good choice for 12 year old kids to listen to, but after that you look fool listening to it.

White metal is generally used to describe a Christian Metal band. Examples of White Metal could include but not limited to Stryper, Zao (more Christian hardcore though). White Metal bands typically make references to the Christian faith, but this is rather vague, for example Bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Slayer, Mudvayne, etc make references to the Christian faith.
White Metalhead: "Dude check out this band, they totally rock!"
Metalhead: "What the fuck is this?"
White Metalhead: "It's Christian Metal! Doesn't praise to the fullest?"
Metalhead: "You mean White Metal? Get that shit out of my CD Player before scarifice you to Satan."
White Metalhead: "Err, sorry..."
Metalhead: "God damn bible beaters."

Usually consists of a band, who’s sound is obviously derives from metal (has metal influences), such as distorted electrical guitars, and bass guitars, rapid drumming, and heavy vocals. However the difference between faggoth metal and REAL metal is the ideology of the band itself. A faggoth metal band usually poses for popular magazines, while signing on to giant labels in hopes of getting more money. Once this happens and faggoth metal band becomes popular and forgets why they wrote music to begin with. Faggoth metal bands are known to become quite bastardized, and begin adding their own catchy melodies, such as synths, pop-influenced playing style and female vocals. Other faggoth metal bands become so melodic and catchy, that eventually mainstream hits become inevitable. Faggoth metal bands are extremely popular in faggoths/mallgoths that have a conviction that they are listening to the heaviest form of music known to man, which is the only real reason they listen to it. Adherents of faggoth metal are either posers who are too intimidated by the real real metal culture, and know it, thus this becomes the next best thing for them. Either that or some douche bag jock who think it makes him/her appear tough. Unfortunately for them, this is untrue, and in fact, faggoth metal bands are generally rejected and ridiculed by true metalheads. Prime examples of a faggoth metal bands are Cradle of Filth (the quintessential example), and Slipknot (they are really a hard rock band, but you get the picture).
Faggoth Metal fan: “Dude, this fucking band is so hardcore! I love it, you should listen to it!”
Me: “I rather not…”
Faggoth Metal fan: “Yea, I bet…it’s because you’re too much of a pussy to listen to this, plus you’ve been affected by the mainstream…”
Me: “Actually, it is YOU that have been affected by the mainstream, which is the primary reason you listen to this sell out band. You think that this makes you an anti-conformist, when in fact, this makes you much more of a tool than the preps…And BTW, this is not death metal, it is FAGGOTH metal. If you want death metal, may I suggest a Morbid Angel album?”
Faggoth Metal fan: “Morbid who?!? That’s not metal…I mean…this…is…scary….AHH!!” *runs like a girl and gets hit by a speeding biker, instantly becoming decapitated in half*
Me: *shakes head* “ahh…kids these days…”

In short, this is the Michelob Light of metal music. I wouldn't even go so far as to call it actual 'metal', but for the sake of avoiding confusion (and so I don't have to come up with a made-up definition on the spot, since I'm being a lazy jackass at the moment), we'll call it Metal Lite. Usually, nu metal songs are not very complicated in riff structure or lyrics; the riffs are often just a few strummed chords, shouted/yelled lyrics, some more strummed chords, an 'emotional' interlude, and more half-assed playing by guys who sound like they're learning as they go along. Seeking depth in Metal Lite lyrics is sort of pointless; you may as well peruse mattress tags for a Shakespearean sonnet. Often, the lyrics are of the stale, done to death "I hate mommy/daddy" (or, in some cases, both) variety. Other lyrical areas include the pain over broken relationships, and anti-society rants which read like something a psuedo-angstridden seventh grader wrote in study hall. The "us against them" theme pops up from time to time, most notably in Slipknot. Who are you against, really? Your parents? The hulking brute waiting for you every morning outside school to give you a wedgie, shake you down for your lunch money, and then toss your miserable ass in some fresh mud (and getting your cheap Hot Topic pants all gunked up!!! Oh, the horror!!!)? Metal Lite is often a common fixture on the Ozzfest tour, where bands like Marilyn Manson, Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed, etc. perform. Sometimes they will introduce lesser known bands, but they often play fiddle to the Metal Lite bands, since, I suppose, they feel their audience may react negatively to a band which actually is talented.
Metal Lite Fan 1: "Did you get Slipknot's new release"
Metal Lite Fan 2: "Oh hells yah! It totally kicked my ass! I actually pissed myself when I heard 'Duality'"
(together)"MAGGOTZ RULE!!! nu metal is the way of the future !!!"
A real metal fan: "You little Hot Profit whores. Go listen to Deicide's self-titled debut, Vader's 'De Profundis', Immolation's 'Close to a World Below', Morbid Angel's 'Altars of Madness' or Emperor's 'Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk'. Then we'll talk. Wait, what the hell am I saying? You won't listen to anything that good."

Wow, what I read on this page about black metal is probably the biggest nonsense since what I've read here about trance music.
The difference between black and death metal is not the vocals, there is plenty of black metal that is even clean sung. Black metal is not about extreme metal, about blastbeats, in fact: a lot of well respected black metal bands avoid blastbeats all together. Black metal is not about satanism, that's just the popular poserblack. Sensible bands try to avoid satanism all together and utilze other themes 'winter' is an often used one.
Black metal is not about anti popmusic, or anti electronic music. True black metal is linked to electronic genres such as ambient, noise and industrial and encorporates elements from that.
So what defines black metal?
What sets black metal appart from death metal is effectively (for the record) what sets trance appart from techno & what sets ambient appart from lounge.
Namely: More monotone, more rooted in classical music theory, less rithmic, more atmospherical, more about the emotion, less about the grooves and melodies that function as a chordprogression.
Noteable black metal albums:
Arcuturs - Aspera Hiems Symfonia
Vinterriket - Der Letzte Winter
Ulver - Bergtatt
Darkspace - Dark Space I
The Kovenant - Nexus Polaris

A Metal Purist doesn't necessarily favor one genre of metal over another. They aren't like metal elitists.. The difference between a metal purist and a MetalHead is the fact that Metalheads will also allow core to be called Metal, where as a Metal Purist realizes the difference between the 2 separate genre's backgrounds. For instance core is a music genre fusing elements of hardcore punk and various forms of electronic music. Where as Metal has its roots from blues rock and psychedelic rock. A Metal Purist realizes the difference between the 2 genres and will defend the Metal name against people who try to infuse the 2 genres. Hence the name PURE.
"Core is nothing like metal, I am a Metal-Purist."
