A city with unparalleled strength, influence, and importance. It is a well-rounded, global, hip, trendy, of-the-moment, powerful, important, and cultured city. It is the premiere city of the United States and also the most important. No doubt about that.
It's a city full of arrogant delusional folks who think their city is superior to all others. It's the "center of the universe", the "capital of the world", the "greatest city on earth". They seem to have such pride in their city. So why do they keep talking trash about Los Angeles? I don't know. All the defintions of "Los Angeles" were probably made by New Yorkers who haven't left their city in the past 5 years and still base their opinions on experiences in 2001. They should just admit that they feel threatened by Los Angeles because the gap between LA and NYC is always decreasing.
New Yorkers live in closets in which they paid half their salary on just to live in the provincial nation of Manhattan. Yes, those closets are filled with cheap furniture, people who can't decorate because they don't have the time (being too busy "making it to the top"), and probably never utilize their kitchens as they are always out at night enjoying the nightlife. Its subways are very cruddy. Aside from Manhattan, there is essentially NOTHING to love about New York City and really all of New York State.

A state in the United States thats money is sucked away from upper NY by a certain city sticking off some island.
NYC raised the tolls at the thruway even though they don't even use them.
Sen. Hillary Clinton loves to use Upstate New York to gain money for herself and practice for when she's in the white house.

The epitome of a city. i.e lots of people crammed into a small space, all of whom are competing to kill, rob, maim, eat each other.yes, i have been there. and it made my asthma worse. How many people do you see wearing a " i love Asthma" t-shirt.
A good a reason as any to smash a jumbo jet into a tower.

Most people recognize the state because it is home to Manhattan. Life in New York (anywhere underneath upstate at least) is truly the fast life. New York definitely takes the prize for having the best Italian food, the best bagels, the most diversity, and the best fashion. However, just like any other state, New York has it's downsides too. The taxes are quite high, the quality of living is going downhill, and people tend to be too caught up with material things. I was born and raised in Long Island, New York and have experienced things there that I would have never experienced anywhere else. Also, it is true that many Long Islanders have an accent, (we pronounce "dog" like "dawg") but we can't help it! With that said, it is an awesome place to visit, but not to live (hence why I no longer live there). Many (not all) New Yorkers tend to drive aggressively. To all of the people that hate on New York, keep it to yourselves. To all of the people that gloat about how New Yorkers are better than everyone else, keep that to yourselves too. All in all, VISIT New York every once in a while, have the time of your life, and then go back home!
Boy, I sure am proud to be from New York, but I would never want to live there!

The only place where everyone can be in one place and yet mind their own business, whether it being on their blackberry or being deep in thought, with the occasional run-in all try to avoid. You barely even notice other people. You can be wearing the silliest Lady Gaga outfit and nobody will even give you a second look. It's the only place that isn't a community; so many people within the thirteen miles and yet you don't know anyone except your close circle of friends. The hottest eligible bachelors are found here. You don't need to be a New Yorker to fit in, because standing out is exactly what it means to fit in there. It is globally known for its diversity and rich culture and for its success in the film and business industry. You can come to New York to pursue whatever dreams you have. And also, New York City is home to many. Just don't wear any "I <3 NY" souvenirs and you'll fit right in -- they scream out tourist and have "tourist" written all over it. And don't stand in the corner of the sidewalk looking at a map.

Woman: Yeah, how'd you know?
Man: Well, for starters, native New Yorkers don't ever wear those sweaters. And most natives know how to get around without looking at a map.

Ah, New York, the great New York City State, from Wall Street in New York City to Madison Square Garden in New York City, and of course you cant forget to go to the statue of Liberty in once again New York City. Also, its the only city in New York (except for Albany, Buffalo, Yonkers, and dozens others)

The guy I was "meant to be with." He has the greatest blue eyes in the world. His hair's the color of mine and he makes me crack up. He's really nice and so sweet. He has the Empire State Building, one of the tallest towers in the world. And he has hot spicy pizza. He's just amazing. He also has the Twin Towers. He's cool. He's really funny and crazy, but really sweet and nice. New York is the best state ever. <3
