art crime

grafitti-usually found in inner city or on trains passing through in a rural suburb.

Stopped at the train crossing; I say to my sister "wow" look at all that grafitti. No sis, it's an "art crime"

Anti-Art

Art created to challenge the very definition of art and criticize the field as a whole, ironically becoming a part of the artistic establishment and changing the field.

Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain" changed the world of art forever and became a staple of Anti-Art, having taken an old urinal, wrote his name on it and submitted it as an art piece. This led to debates so heated that if it wasn't for "Fountain" and its nuanced use of found objects, modern art would be nothing like it was today.

outsider art

A term used to describe art that is funky weird or unusual, usually sort of primitive and that doesn't come from the snooty art scene, but from just plain old folks. It can be disturbing, funny or just sweet. Folk art of the urban experience.

I keyed in "Outsider Art" on ebay and I found a bunch of wall sculptures by this chick that used plastic toys nailed to crosses! I bought the Xena one.

Art Theft

When someone reposts art that doesn't belong to them without credit.

Even if you claim the art isn't yours, you still gotta credit the fucking artist for their work and effort. Sure, the drawing might not have taken long for them to make, and therefore isn't a lot of effort, but the amount of time it took to learn how to draw in a way that makes them feel proud of their own work definitely is effort.

Person 1: Why is Art Theft such a big deal? It's just free exposure to the artist, lmao.

Person 2: It's not free exposure when the artist isn't credited for their work.

Person 1 (now pissed off): tHeY sHoUlD bE gLaD tHaT i'M eVeN lOoKiNg At It! PeOpLe ArE sMaRt EnOuGh To FiNd ThE aRtIsT oN tHeIr OwN!!!!

Person 2: Clearly you aren't smart enough, since you didn't bother looking for the original artist to credit them.
