Ohio Navy is a "public domain" type of boating cultural lore or, concept, that began during the late 1950's and early 1960's when the manmade Lake Cumberland was filled and born. It became very noticeable that many, many, many people from Ohio were bringing their boats to the new Lake Cumberland.
To best understand the boating culture of the "Ohio Navy", you must close your eyes and imagine the following vision:
It is the late 1950's.
* Put yourself at the border of Ohio and Kentucky.
* You notice a sudden major increase of boats being pulled from Ohio to Kentucky every weekend.
* There are traffic jams on two lane highways, of cars pulling boats
* Businesses and residents surrounding the new Lake Cumberland began calling these boating enthusists, "the Ohio
Navy".
* Motel and restaurant billboards read, "Welcome Ohio Navy".
I see the lake is full of the Ohio Navy today.
