While they first became popular in 2010, their popularity increased following the Club Penguin's discontinuation in 2017 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Notable CPPSs, operating and defunct, include Club Penguin Rewritten (2017-2022), Club Penguin Online (2017-2020), New Club Penguin (2020-present), and Club Penguin Journey (2023-2024, 2024-present).
