Preps dress alike. Goths dress alike. Punks dress alike. Emo kids dress alike...scene kids dress alike. Whether you want to believe it or not, you are following trends right now. So are scene kids. EVERYONE is. You can fucking decide yourself who you want to be.
There are not many scene kids in my school, but the ones that are there are AWESOMEASFUCK. They stand out, dare to be different, and don't care what YOU think of them. And everyone has different tastes in music.
There is a huge difference between emo and scene, so don't go around calling every scene kid you see emo.
so YEAH.

Some people on here are just taking things way.too.far!
i know at least 20 what you would call "scene" kids and only about 3 of them actually call themselves scene. This is because the way they dress and the music they listen to has absolutely nothing to do with following a fasion. Its what they like and what appeals to them.
Everyone should get to know a "scene" person before judging them because behind the hair and makeup are really nice people who are so disgriminated against that they tend to become very judging of other groups of people and many of them DO cut themselves and write songs and listen to depressing music because it helps them fight again all their problems.
Different people have diferent views on life and different ways of dealing with things when they go wrong. Different people have different ideas of good music and different ways of appreciating this music. Different people have different ways of dressing.
Althought these people are different on the outside maybe you should get to know them first before judging them.
The scene kids
The scene guy:
hair: covers eye, spiked at back, usually black with a few cool colours thrown in for originality
clothes:tight black drainpipes, chackered vans or converse, white studded belt, tight black tshirt either with a band logo, a brand logo or a phrase on it and a striped, black hoody or black blazer.
Piercings: lip (usually on side), flesh tunnels in ears and sometimes septum piercings.
make-up: not ALL scene guys wear make-up. But the ones who do usually wear black eyeliner and maybe pink around the eyes.
Accessories: Bandana around neck and on wrist or Pink or black sex bracelets.
Obsessed by: hearts, stars, guns, myspace, stripes, friends, unknown bands and gigs
The scene girl:
hair: short or long, straight, black normally with bits of blonde or pink in, bows and a red headband
clothes: skirts, studded white belt, quite retro/vintage, colourful patterns && slip on dolly shoes.
piercings:usually the same as guys.
make-up:thick black eyeliner. sometimes stars. sometimes bright red lipstick.
Obsessed with: pretty much the same as guys.

The first actual trend created by the Internet; one person did it, posted it on a website; then a million people copied them.
Then a million more people hated them, ridiculed them, and now we have this Internet fight over how "lame" scene kids are.
However, you never see an actual scene kid in public, only on Myspace and YouTube. You also see a lot of people making fun of those kids.
Scene Kids follow the trends online, rather than in real life.

Kids who long to be "different" and are interested in anime.
Highly mistaken for "emo" kids, but no, they are very different.
Usually if you find a scene kid, they are in a group of other scene kids. They usually have over-straightend, poorly-teased hair (either black with streaks of read or other obnoxiously bright colors, or bleach blonde) and way too much eye makeup (including the guys)
They usually hangout at the mall or concerts. Most likely if you see one, they are standing around talking to one another and having no life.
More than half of their lives are spent on Myspace.
Usually have a weird obsession with Hello Kitty and/or Mitchell Davis.
99.9% of them reside in Jacksonville, Florida.
Sometimes decide to change their orientation so they draw attention to themselves.
Sometimes have 2 names, like EddieExtinction, to show their wonderful creativity.
Are extremely pale. By choice.
John: Your clothes are too tight. Did they shrink in the dryer?
EddieExtinction: No. Tight clothes are different, so I wear them. Cause I'm a scene kid. And that's what scene kids do.

Someone who tries not to conform to mainstream media, music and fashion but ends up conforming with all of the other "non conformists". Although to a certain extent everyone is in fact a conformist, scene kids are ostrisized so heavily because the essence of what they are conforming to is unconformity unlike other types of conformists. For example, people that buy Abercrombie and Fitch, Aeropastel, are conforming to the stereotypical "preppy" unlike scene kids who are conforming to the idea of unconformity. Scene kids in my opinion are a walking contradiction.
Stereotypically scene kids wear dark colors, tight jeans, makeup (including boys), have the same crazy disheveled edward scissor hands on crack hair cut, vans/crazy bitch stompn boots, anything out of the ordinary,(usually from hot topic) and etc.

it's as simple as people that are really into the local music scene. i don't know about anywhere else, but in Seattle, its usually in the genres of emo, hardcore, and metalcore.
a lot of scene kids are straight edge. that really is mostly because of this groups affiliation with original hardcore (which is where emo evolved from and emocore), which is bands like minor threat, bad brains, dead Kennedys, 7 seconds, etc. not everyone realizes what some in the 80s did with the whole straight edge thing, but oh well. some people just took it too far and killed people who drank, smoke, and/or did drugs.
now this is a little bit of a rant, but this is my opinion here:
what confuses me (first of all i'm too a scene kid, the girl pants, emohawk, all of it) is that scene kids get pissed when they get made fun of for being scene, especially when someone calls them emo. Now in my opinion, emo kids usually are preps or people from some other stereotyped group that is in the beggining stages of converting to scene. But when you look at it as a whole, THEY ARE SO CLOSELY RELATED, IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE WHY PEOPLE WOULD CONFUSE THE TWO. so don't get pissed off just because peopel are uneducated, unless they put themselves in that situation.
i won't say much more. other than scene kids usually know a ton about music, but they don't do much with it other then try to impress people with it. it's almost as if it's a contest of who can know more about music. oh well, i just like emo, indie, hardcore, spazzcore, metalcore, etc. just because it's not mainstreamed. fall out boy used to be scene, until they started focusing on the money and adding other people to their music. but that's another issue, selling out sucks.
a lot of scene kids also hate rap with a passion. but recently, scene kids are popping up in the rap scene as well. like gym class heroes. don't know why, scene kids to me are the more antithesis to rap, but whatever
