The term comes from video games, in which there are often harder difficulty settings (or "hard modes") than the standard gameplay, intended for players looking for a challenge.
In MMORPGs, "hard modes" are triggered versions of boss encounters that cause them to become more difficult than usual, but offer better rewards.

A new and up-and-coming band from Staines, UK, they have released one major album, "Stars of CCTV", and several singles including: "Hard to Beat", "Living for the Weekend" (which got remixed to a dance song) and "Gotta Reason" which later got released on several EA videogames including Fifa 06. They are a good alternative or indie band, which bring together the styles of the 90s and the 70s London music influx. They have picked up several awards, and have gone up in respect a lot more than the last entry on "Hard-Fi". A new tour is being planned, and a new album will be out before summer next year.

A person that is known to rant and rave about things. Their opinions are usually ignorant and lack evidence. The term comes from the literal meaning of "blowing hard". If you blow hard enough people pretty much have to listen.

Not just to die, but to die hard. Over-die. Die and then some. Beating a dead horse. To "Die Hard" implies one does not simply fall over, one is killed in a graphic and action-packed way. Most prominently featured in the Die Hard film series. Generally involves, but doesn't necessitate, being shot.
