When your kids argue over what to watch on TV and end up physically fighting. This is rather uncontrollable and unable for many parents to stop because of their inner strength and physical movement.
I can't stand the kids, they had a TV workout over what to watch.
The original method of motionless picture film invented in 1668. But these early TV's were not without drawbacks, being initially named the "poop soup killer" as when the Cholera TV first came out people were so shocked they literally shit themselves to death en masse. The people left behind were so preoccupied with their motionless picture Cholera TV's they hardly had time to dig mass graves for their friends and comrades.
The random nature of Cholera TV poisoning is also where the phrase "shit out of luck" came from.

In regard to reality television shows, refers to the stupid vapidity and mindless entertainment that appeals to the lowest common denominator low brow audience.
Garbage tv, shows you'd find in the dumpster.

Derived from the National Broadcasting Company's slogan for their upcoming fall line-up of 1995: "Must-See TV."
