A Day At The Races is British rock band Queen’s fifth studio album. It is often considered the “less-extravagant and less-pretentious” companion to its predecessor, A Night At The Opera. They’ve both taken their names from Marx Brothers films – despite having little to do with the movies themselves – and share similar cover artwork.
Many contemporary critics call Races a sequel to Opera. A Washington Post journalist even goes as far as guessing Queen’s sixth album based on the order of Marx Brothers films. Ironically enough, A Day At The Races offers an assortment of sophisticated love songs, including but not limited to "You Take My Breath Away", "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy", and more famously, "Somebody To Love."
What I adore about A Day At The Races is that it contains Queen’s “classic sound” developed in Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack, though long gone are the days of vigour, uncertainty and angst that accompanies a young band.
