Jobtown

Jobtown is a term used by firefighters to denote a legitimate or "working" structure fire. It is as much a feeling as it is a place; adrenaline, excitement, fear, and anxiety are some of the feeling triggered. To some, Jobtown is a fantasy place they only hear real firefighters tell stories about. It can be everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. Not to be confused with other "alarms" or fires such as brush or trash fires, Jobtown is reserved for calls where someone's life or property is saved from total destruction. Some firefighters hope to get the chance to go to Jobtown but most say they do but wouldn't know what to do when they got there. Few openly admit they don't want to go there, usually because they're scared or because they go so often they need a break.

C Shift took Engine 1 on a trip to Jobtown yesterday so we have to wash fire hose today.

Jobtown

A term used by firefighters to describe a working structure fire. Also used by many junior and probationary firefighters ( who can’t go in the fire on the attack line) as a # on social media ( esp. Snapchat and IG)or stickers on their vehicle in attempts to impress girls, who in return have no clue what it means.

Jobtown

Jobtown is a place that paid firefighters are well aware of. Some may work near a jobtown and frequent via mutual aid, some may actually work in jobtown, and look down on surrounding towns. Jobtowns are normally very busy with fire calls. Jobtowns are normally big city's. Most jobtowns have 5 or more fire departments within their city limits. Volunteer fire departments want to be considered jobtown, and alot claim that they are. Jobtowns do not exist in voluntary rural towns. Jobtown cannot exist in these locations, as most Volunteers boast about being above their states legal alcohol consumption limit, and driving to emergencies heavily intoxicated. If they do reach their destination to said emergency, that emergency usually results in a standing foundation only, and possibly loss of life. The usual attack for these responders if they make it to the scene is a well know term called "HIHFTY". Defensive attacks, some also call it a party, usually the 21 year old Chief will bring coolers with alcoholic beverages. Selfies and tiktoks will also certainly be made while someones personal belongs go up in flames.
