my eye

a friendly, acceptable way to express disagreement with the previous speaker's statement.

It is the root phrase behind more vulgar terms replacing the keyword "eye" with other parts of the human anatomy less suitable for a wide audience.

high schooler #2: My eye, Steve.

resting my eyes

The phrase you say when your are falling asleep on the couch and someone tells you not to fall asleep. You should explain why you are "resting your eyes" so it is more believable.

Wife - "Hey, don't fall asleep it is early, we need to get stuff done."

Husband - "Oh I'm not, I'm just resting my eyes, I sat infront of the computer all day at work."
(5 MIN LATER)
Husband - zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ

apple of my eye

One's favorite person; the one you love most.

In Old English, the pupil of the eye (the round, dark center) was called the 'apple'. It was thought that the pupil was a round object much like an apple (a piece of fruit). When you look at someone, their reflection appears in your pupil. So if someone is the 'apple of your eye', he or she is someone that you look at a lot and enjoy seeing.

1) Miranda is the apple of my eye - I love her more than anything on earth.

2) Her granddaughter is the apple of her eye.

My eyes are bleeding

When you see something you can never unsee, regardless of how much bleach and hallucinogenics you use to try to forget it.

I'm a parent who usually doesn't nose into my kid's business, but, one day, I opened up my son's laptop out of idle curiosity. His browser was open, and was currently on the Google Images page of "Zoophilia." It is three hours later, I have downed THREE BOTTLES OF SNAKE VENOM, and my eyes are bleeding.
