When a sleeping person hears a whatsapp ping on the phone, rolls over, picks up the phone, types out a non-coherent response, and falls back asleep. This phenomenon is far too common these days because of a combination of factors: (1) people sleep next to their phones; (2) whatsapp is generally set to sound a ping when a message is received; and (3) common etiquette appears to allow sending whatsapp messages at all hours of the night, despite the fact that the recipients might be sleeping
"I can't believe what you wrote me last night on whatsapp!!"
"Come on, I was just sleepwhatsapping"
