(noun) Relationship term used about a person soon to become a former boyfriend or girlfriend. Usually used when a break-up is (or should be) imminent.
- Is that her boyfriend or her ex?
- They haven't broken up yet, so he's her pre-ex.
Pre-ex refers to your ex boyfriend/girlfriend before the break up. Many people get confused when someone refers to their ex if they are talking about before or after the break up.
If a person says, "My ex burned my house down" you wouldn't know if the ex boyfriend/girlfriend burned the house down while they were still dating and that's why they broke up or if they broke up and then the ex boyfriend/girlfriend burned the house down.
Bro 1: Bro I made out with my Pre-ex a lot.
Bro 2: Nice, so who you making out with now?
vs

A relationship along the same lines as friends with benefits, except that the male initiating the relationship pretends to have feelings for a woman just to engage in sexual intercourse with her.

Man 2: Hell yeah, I'd like to get to pre-ex status with that bitch.
The mechanical, uninspired act of passionless intimacy dutifully completed by individuals who's long-term, expiring relationship has fatigued from overwork, emotional exhaustion, diverging interests or mutual contempt.
